On August 2nd, we celebrate Fauquier Wine Day in honor of the 256th anniversary of Royal Governor Francis Fauquier’s certification that validated the successful cultivation of European vines in Virginia (circa August 6, 1763). Gov. Fauquier, the namesake of Fauquier County, certified that the Carter family successfully grew European vines at Cleve® in 1763. This was the first recorded history of successful grape production in Virginia with European vines.
In celebration of this important day in American wine culture, we are offering our customers a 30% bottle discount on all bottles of our Governor Fauquier! Maximum two case per person.
WINE CLUB MEMBERS: receive a discount at 40% off.
AMBASSADOR CLUB: purchase a case and get 50% off! Today and every day!

Experience a white linen Philip Carter Tasting in an elegant setting in the vineyard (or Cleve Hall weather dependent) with beautifully presented small plate samples of Virginia Meats, Cheeses, and Locavore Goods. $35 per person @ 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. max. 20 guests per seating, reservations required by April 15th.
Come and join Philip Carter’s winemaker for a vineyard talk with tasting. Walk the vineyard with Philip Carter’s award-winning winemaker Andy Reagan; learn about bio-dynamic and natural wine trends and sustainable agriculture. Then take a tour of the cellar and wine production and go behind to the scenes to learn how premium wine is made from one of Virginia’s star winemakers. Sessions @ 11:00, 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. ($25.00 per person, includes a full wine tasting of Philip Carter’s lineup, max. 12 guests per session, reservations required).
The tasting will include vintages of these wines spanning from 2008 to 2017. A vertical tasting is arranged to taste different vintages of the same style of wine. Conversely, a horizontal tasting is arranged to taste the same style of wine from different producers or vineyard lots from the same vintage. In our vertical tasting, we will evaluate our Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Corotoman from different vintages to discern the influence of the growing seasons and the influence of the hands and minds that were behind both the growing of the grapes and the cellar practices for these wines. Limited availably of these wines will available for purchase. Reservations suggested. $25 per person.
