We invite you and your family to join us for a very special Thanksgiving tradition when we open our library of wines to offer vertical tastings of Philip Carter wines spanning the past decade. A vertical tasting is arranged to taste different vintages of the same style of wine. In our vertical tasting, we will evaluate our different vintages to discern the influence of the growing seasons and the influence of the hands and minds that were behind both the growing of the grapes and the cellar practices for these wines.
For $18 per person come out and taste 3 vintages of 3 of our wines (that's 9 wines total)! Wine Club Members receive a 10% discount. This experience is truly a treat that we seldom offer. Open to the general public. Tasting times: 1am, 1pm and 3pm. Reservations suggested.
Join us for the weekend event of the season and the start of Virginia Oyster Month! We invite you to be part of an annual Virginia tradition at Philip Carter Winery. Chesapeake Bay oysters, award-winning wines, craft beers, ciders, and mead! Tickets are $10 per person in advance ($15 at the event) and include a taste of 4 wines, 3 beers, 2 hard ciders, and 1 mead. Must be 21+ for tastings.

On Saturday the 5th, as part of the En Plein Air Weekend, we will host Creative Mankind for a paint and sip event in the vineyard. Learn to be an artist, even if you have no experience! The folks at Creative Mankind provide all the necessary supplies and instruction, and you walk home with your own masterpiece! Registration required. See website for details.
En plein air is a French expression that means ‘in the open air’, and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors, which is also called peinture sur le motif ("painting on the ground") in French. Philip Carter has long been a home for Virginia artists, and has proudly displayed fine works for art in Cleve Hall over the years. On this very special weekend each year, we invite all artists to Philip Carter Winery to share in the vineyard grounds by setting up on easel and painting the experience with the landscape. Every participating artist receives a complimentary glass of wine and a 25% discount on any wine bottle purchase.
ART EXHIBITION: The weekend of art events will also include an exhibition by the Orlean Artist’s Collective, a group of local artists that gather to share and nurture a passion for art in a cooperative environment, while providing an additional cultural opportunity in our beloved northern Piedmont community. 25% of all sales proceeds from the art exhibit will be donated to the Orlean Fire House Building Fund.

This is your opportunity to go behind the scenes to have a hands-on experience with one of the top winemakers on the East Coast. In this intense emersion course learn what happens during harvest as the grapes come off the vineyard and are processed in the cellar. Take your hand at blending wines and find your passion in the winemaker’s lifestyle. Then enjoy lunch and a glass of wine with the winemaker.
